1. How the SASSA Payment Schedule Works
Every month millions of South Africans wait for one thing. Their grant money. It means school fees can be paid. It means food can be bought. And it means the lights stay on.
SASSA grant payment dates are not random. They follow a carefully planned staggered system approved by the National Treasury. This system exists for two reasons. To protect the national banking infrastructure from overloading. And to keep beneficiaries safe by spreading out collection times.
War Veterans Grant
Care Dependency Grant
Foster Child Grant
SASSA follows strict rules when setting payment dates. Payments never start on a Monday unless it is the only option. Payments never fall on weekends. And payments never fall on public holidays. If a date falls on a holiday or weekend, it moves to the nearest working day.

7. SRD R370 Grant Payment Dates
The SRD R370 grant works differently from all other SASSA grants. It does not have one fixed date. And it pays in batches throughout the last week of each month.
This happens because the SRD grant is re-evaluated every single month. SASSA must verify 8.2 million applications before releasing payments. Each applicant gets a personal Pay Day date once their verification is complete.
| Month | SRD R370 Payment Window | Check Portal From |
|---|---|---|
| June 2026 | 24 to 30 June 2026 | 20 June |

8. Linked Account Payments: The Rule Most People Miss
This is one of the most important payment rules. And most beneficiaries do not know about it.
A linked account is when one person receives more than one type of SASSA grant. The most common example is a grandmother who receives both the Old Age Grant for herself and the Child Support Grant for her grandchildren.
Normally the Old Age Grant pays on Day 1 and the Child Support Grant pays on Day 3. But if both grants are linked to the same person, SASSA pays both on Day 1. The earlier date.
This means the grandmother receives both her Old Age Grant and her Child Support Grant on the same day. Not two separate days. SASSA prioritizes the safety of elderly beneficiaries by combining payments on the first available day.
Example for October 2026. If you receive both the Older Person’s Grant and Child Support Grant, both payments arrive on Friday 2 October 2026. Not Tuesday 6 October for the child grant. Both come on Friday 2 October.
Check your bank or collection point on the first payment date if you receive multiple grants.
9. What Happens When Payment Day Falls on a Weekend or Holiday
SASSA has a firm rule. Payments never process on weekends. And payments never process on public holidays. When a scheduled payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday, SASSA moves it to the nearest available working day. Usually the Friday before or the Monday after.
| Public Holiday | Date | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Youth Day | 16 June 2026 | Does not affect June payment dates |
| National Women’s Day | 9 August 2026 | Does not affect August payment dates |
| Heritage Day | 24 September 2026 | SRD batch may shift by one day |
| Day of Reconciliation | 16 December 2026 | December early payment already accounts for this |
| Christmas Day | 25 December 2026 | December payments run early to avoid this |
| Day of Goodwill | 26 December 2026 | December payments run early to avoid this |
10. Where to Collect Your SASSA Grant
You have more options than just the ATM. Here is the complete list of where you can collect your SASSA grant payment.
- Direct Bank Deposit (Recommended). Your payment deposits directly into your personal bank account. Capitec, TymeBank, Absa, FNB, Standard Bank, and all major South African banks accept SASSA payments. You withdraw when you want. No queues on payment day.
- Postbank Black Card. If you use the Postbank system, your payment loads onto your Black Card. Remember the Gold Card deadline was 31 August 2026. If you still have a Gold Card, your payments may be suspended. Swap immediately at Shoprite, Checkers, Boxer, or Usave.
- Retail Outlets. You can withdraw at the till point at Shoprite, Checkers, Boxer, Usave, and Pick n Pay. No ATM needed. Swipe your card and ask for cash back.
- ATMs. Any South African ATM accepts SASSA cards. Postbank ATMs are free for SASSA cardholders. Other bank ATMs charge between R10 and R13 per withdrawal.
- Mobile Cash Pay Points. Available in specific areas on scheduled days. Check with your local SASSA office for the schedule in your area.
