How to Reconsider SASSA Grant 2025: What to Do?

If you are contemplating, “How to Reconsider SASSA Grant?” It signifies that your application has been declined. Certainly, you applied for one of the 07 grants of SASSA. Confidently, you submitted almost every document with the information completely when you applied.

But decline!

So, don’t feel yourself left in the air. You can reapply. But first, you need to re-examine your documents and information in depth. That’s why go through the qualifying matrix again and find out where the mistake was made.

Once you find out where you commit a mistake, it will be relatively very easy to reapply for reconsideration of your SASSA grant reapplication. But, if you still believe, you didn’t make any errors when the grant was first applied.

You can do it anew. How?

The South African Social Security Agency has come up with multiple solutions, where non-selected candidates can reapply, reinstate, or reconsider their applications. You can choose one of several solutions. Here, I have 03 channels to explain.

03 Channels to Re-Consideration SASSA Grant Online

In South Africa, there are 03 relevant government agencies as I have listed below. You can click on one of them as your choice to reconsider your rejected grant.

Remember that these portals are for online services only!

After clicking on any of the various links above, eventually, you will reach your target web page. So, without further ado, start your application reconsideration process online by following the steps given below.

  • You will need to enter your 13-digit ID and registered mobile number.
  • The page will take you to your profile. Click on the “Reconsideration Application”.
  • Provide your reasons and resubmit them on the same page.
  • You are the registered user. SASSA will notify you via SMS.
  • The SMS includes an OTP. Enter it on the verification page.

Note that the reapplication process 2025 is the same for all these portals!

SASSA In-Person Reconsideration Process

Apart from online, every applicant can visit their nearest office for the same services. What could be the process there? The details are given below.

At the office, a representative will guide and assist you. They will explain the entire process to you and complete it with your permission. The representative will first verify your Identity, whether you are a grantee of SASSA yourself or not.

If you have sent in office someone else to on your behalf, the proxy must have your consent form. If so, the proxy can process it on your behalf.

You or the proxy visited; in both cases, your application will be reconsidered. The rest of the process is the same as online, as I have explained earlier. However, you only need to provide the PIN to the SASSA ambassador as soon as you receive it.

If you wish!

SASSA Appeal and Review Process for Rejected Applications

SASSA continues to work on streamlining the process to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive their payments effectively. Applicants are encouraged to check their status updates online and provide any missing information immediately.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in Mpumalanga is urging applicants whose SRD R370 grant applications were rejected not to despair. The agency has implemented a review process to reassess rejected applications.

The company introduced a dedicated email address: [email protected].

It was set up for appeals back in 2020. It can now be used today as well. A specialized team is in place to take a fresh look at these ‘rethink’ or ‘relook’ requests. Applicants should use official SASSA communication channels to avoid scams and misinformation.

If an applicant is found to have an income source or government assistance, their application will be rejected. SASSA remains committed to making sure that all eligible applicants receive their grants and stimulate declined applicants to submit reconsideration requests on the nail.

Why Declined Applications?

SASSA routinely receives and scrutinizes plenty of applications from underprivileged individuals or vulnerable couples each month. Considering the large influx of applications, SASSA uses a strict set of eligibility benchmarks to evaluate each one application.

These applications may be sanctioned if the applicant fully satisfies the stipulated requirements. Conversely, they may be turned down for several reasons, such as:

  • Earning more income – income thresholds set by SASSA.
  • Not being a South African citizen or permanent resident.
  • Fail to provide the required authenticated documentation.
  • Already receiving another grant that is unlawful.
  • During scrutiny, fraudulent activity was found outside SASSA.
  • Incomplete or inconsistent information while filling out online applications.
  • SASSA finds itself devoid of adequate funds when disbursing grant amounts.

How to Avoid Application Rejection?

Every applicant aspires to have their application to be approved in the first stage. Because this grantee welfare program is for the vulnerable, and they require money at their doorstep without any undue delay. So, when they get informed that their applications were rejected, they get disappointed.

They go into a state of despair. Follow these steps to avoid such situations, which I have observed most applicants make mistakes while applying. Be careful and go through them thoroughly one by one.

Understand the Eligibility Criteria

First of all, study the criteria deeply. Arrange your document accordingly, and check it twice to avoid any hindrance. Particularly, your income threshold must be according to the matrix.

Submit Complete Documentation

The most important document is your proof of Identity, whether it is your South African ID or a refugee or asylum seeker. You must ensure that all required documents are submitted on time and correctly.

Provide Accurate & Updated Information

Never provide incomplete or incorrect information to SASSA; whenever thorough verification checks are carried out. Therefore, at the time of the check, if they find any shortcomings. It may lead to the rejection of your application.

Avoid Duplicate Applications

Some people try to kill two birds with one stone by applying for more than one grant, which is against the rules. So, never apply twice. You should apply for only one grant and make sure that your eligibility criteria are in line with it.

Note: SASSA has 7 different types of grants. You should first study the criteria inside out and then apply them.

Conveniently for you, I explained the 03 official channels for submitting “ONLINE” appeals.

  • Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA)
  • SASSA Service Online Portal (SSOP)
  • Department of Social Development (DSD)

Steps: Enter your 13-digit ID and mobile number → choose “Reconsideration Application” → submit reasons → verify with OTP → await SMS confirmation.

Appeals can also be sent via [email protected]

In-Person Reconsideration

So, In-Person reconsideration, applicants (or proxies with consent) can visit the nearest SASSA office. You must first authenticate your Identity, and this process will be conducted by a SASSA representative.

If you need assistance – Contact Info – Toll-Free: 0800 60 10 11.

Common Reasons for Rejection

  • Income above the SASSA threshold.
  • Not a citizen/permanent resident.
  • Missing/incorrect documents.
  • Already receiving an unlawful grant.
  • Duplicate applications.
  • Limited funds.

How to Avoid Rejection

  • Understand eligibility criteria.
  • Submit all required documents correctly.
  • Provide accurate, updated information.
  • Avoid duplicate applications.
  • Apply only for the grant you qualify for.

1. How do I reinstate my SASSA status?

A rejected grantee application can be reinstated on the official webpage of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). All SASSA grants are included in this process, such as Social Relief of Distress (SRD), Care Dependency, Old Age and Child Support Grants, etc. On this specific page, follow my instructions!

  • Hit on the “TAB” key and select “Reinstate”.
  • Enter your ID and registered phone number.
  • Follow the prompts to verify the OTP.
  • Confirm reinstatement.

2. Why was the SASSA grant denied in 2025?

Most of the time, applicants exceed the income limit set by SASSA. This limit is proven by the applicants’ bank statements. Second, most of them fail to provide the necessary documents at the time of assessment. In addition, some applicants may be receiving benefits from other government institute grants such as NSFAS or UIF.

3. What documents are required for SASSA review?

SASSA usually reviews or assesses after 3 months. The necessary documents you must have for the assessment are as follows.

  • A valid South African ID.
  • The recent 3 months of bank statements.
  • Current utility bill required.
  • Payslips and pension slips required.
  • Affidavit if unemployed.
  • A medical certificate is required for disability grant.
  • Child’s birth certificate for child support grant.
  • Court order for foster care grant.

4. How to fix a grant application already active?

If your grant is active, it may be that you no longer need the grant. You can cancel it. But, on the other hand, someone else is trying to get your grant by completing your grant process. So, for this, you should go for your biometric verification again and contact SASSA immediately.
