SASSA Care Dependency Grant – Eligibility and Amount 2024

SASSA Care Dependency Grant is for a primary caregiver who is struggling to raise a child and is worried about earning means, especially when a child is disabled. The South African Social Security Agency, considering this situation of parents, introduced the SASSA Care Dependency Grant.

So, a nurturer can receive the grant, such as biological parents, primary caregivers, or foster parents. A caregiver must meet the eligibility criteria to receive a SASSA Care Dependency Grant. Eligibility criteria include that the child must be disabled and below 18 years of age. It is also necessary for parents to pass SASSA’s mean test.

Moreover, your annual income must be at most R223200 if you are a single parent to take care of a child fully. If you are married, the combined income of a couple must not exceed R446400.

Remember, the said income criteria are not for foster parents.

If you are seeking more than that, SASSA has introduced two more grants for children: the Child Support Grant and the Foster Child Grant.
