After clicking on “Register,” you will find a new tab that will include a consent form; you have to click on “I Agree” and then click on “Apply.”

After hitting the apply button, a form will be visible; you must fill in all the boxes with your credentials. What are they? I describe in the image under. In this particular form, the most essential thing is to provide your bank account and your grant type. Once you register successfully, you can apply for the SASSA child support grant by clicking on the button “Apply for a Grant.” Now, let’s look at the eligibility criteria and then the required documents simultaneously.

Eligibility Criteria

  • South African citizens, Asylum seekers, or refugees can apply.
  • Refugees must provide the Section 24 permit as proof of refugee status and identity.
  • You can be biological parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, or cousins.
  • The Child should be under 18 years of age.
  • You must meet the requirements of the Means Test.
  • Primary caregivers cannot apply for more than 06 children who are not biological or adopted legally.
  • The Child must not be cared for in a government-funded institution in South Africa.

The SASSA Child Support Grant Online Process

SASSA will send you an OTP (One-time Password) for bearing out of your mobile number. After that, the outfit will send you an SMS with a secure link. Click this link and enter all your credentials regarding your personal information and documents. After submitting the online application form, SASSA will start a verification and validation process on your application.

Note: Home visits are possible to validate your information. Normally, they take 30 days, but in rare cases, they take up to 90 days. SASSA Child Support Grant Amount

In a budget speech in February 2024, Finance Minister Mr Enoch Godongwana declared an increase of R20 to the SASSA child support grant in Cape Town. He said the increase will be effective and disbursed from 05 April 2024. The amount paid earlier was R510; with this enhancement of R20, it will now be R530.

SASSA Child support top-up is for relatives who are responsible for caring for orphans. SASSA was paying R250 as a top-up for child grants, but now it will become R260 with an increase of R10.
